There's room
My friend you have a heart that’s bigger than you could ever know. A heart that contains the entirety of the human experience. In this heart there is room for great love, joy and equanimity. There is room for happiness and peace and gratitude. There’s room for family, friends and nature.
There’s also room for compassion, for pain, for suffering. There is room in your heart for your enemies, for disease and death. The things that threaten to break your heart cannot ever truly do so. While on the surface it might seem your heart can get hurt, if you dig a little deeper you’ll see that in the vastness of your infinite heart there is room for all of it. The pain can never damage your heart, not for real. It can only help you open the door a little further. You can hold the pain of the world, you can hold the suffering of loss.
Your heart can handle it all, and in using your heart to hold space rather than trying to fight, change or struggle, you can heal anything. Your heart will do the work, just hold space. You have infinite space, in your butt.
Sorry, couldn’t help myself. The space in your butt is limited, but the space in your heart is not. When life gets you down, when the pain and suffering threatens to destroy your life or even your day, remind yourself there is room. Say to yourself often:
There’s room in my heart for all of it.
I’m teaching a live yoga class via zoom on Sunday January 30th, at 10:30 am central. All levels welcome
